I bet many of you reading this are thinking, "Aren't smartphones and PCs already as evolved as they can get?" Honestly, I kinda thought so too. But MWC 2026 is here to say, with a smug grin, "You couldn't be more wrong!"

衛星通信標準化の波

複数のメーカーが、SIMカード不要でスマホが衛星に直接つながる機能を発表しています。山奥や海上でもメッセージを送れるようになる機能で、AppleのiPhone 14シリーズが先行していた技術が今後は当たり前になりそうとのこと。

折りたたみが「普通の選択肢」になってきた

SamsungのGalaxy ZシリーズやHuaweiのMateXシリーズに続いて、複数のメーカーがフォルダブル（折りたたみ）スマホの新モデルを発表。価格帯も少しずつ下がってきていて、2026年末には20万円台の選択肢が出てくる見込みとのこと。

「折りたたみは壊れそう」という懸念も徐々に解消されていて、耐久テストの基準も各社が引き上げているんですよ。次に端末を替えるときの選択肢に入ってくるかもしれません。

Smartphones That Read Your Mind? Seriously?

I can't spill specific product names just yet, but some of the announcements were truly shocking. For instance, one manufacturer unveiled a new smartphone that basically senses its owner's mood and automatically adjusts settings or launches apps. It's like having an RPG party member who, when you think, "Man, I need some healing soon," just pops a potion for you without a word! How cool is that? It even saves you the effort of pressing a button!

And foldable phones? They've evolved even further. "Folding" is old news. We're talking "stretching" and "wrapping" now—it's practically the world of Transformers! Can you imagine a phone that unfurls from your pocket like a scroll to become a tablet-sized device? I'm still having trouble fully picturing it myself, but it's definitely exciting (lol).

The Future Where PCs Are Obsolete?

Laptops aren't holding back either. One ultralight laptop particularly stood out. It's almost the same weight as a smartphone, yet its processing power is on par with a beefy gaming PC. To put it another way, it's like a PlayStation 5 running inside an old Famicom cartridge! You can carry it anywhere and get serious work done or game whenever you want. No more showing off your MacBook at the cafe, folks.

Of course, there were tons of wireless earbuds and smartwatches with designs and functions straight out of sci-fi movies. The earbuds, in particular, were so natural you'd forget you were wearing them, and they can even monitor your health and alert you if something's wrong. Isn't that like Navi from The Legend of Zelda constantly telling you, "Yuuki, your health is low!"? I'm kinda jealous.
