Toyota is a leader in solid-state battery patents, with over 1,000 applications as of 2024, far outstripping second-place Samsung SDI (approx. 400 applications).

トヨタの特許数が世界一

Samsung SDIも2027年量産宣言
Samsung SDIも2027年の量産開始を宣言。エネルギー密度500Wh/kgを目指していて、現在の一般的なリチウムイオン電池(約250Wh/kg)のほぼ倍の性能を狙っているんです。液体電解質を使わないため液漏れがなく、安全性の高さも強調されているとのこと。

Samsung SDI's Progress
Samsung SDI also aims for mass production by 2027, focusing on sulfide-based solid electrolytes to achieve an energy density of 500Wh/kg. This is roughly double the performance of current lithium-ion batteries, which hover around 250Wh/kg. A key advantage Samsung highlights is safety; without liquid electrolytes, the risk of leakage or fire is dramatically reduced.
The Cost Hurdle
While the technology is progressing, the biggest obstacle remains cost. Solid-state batteries are currently estimated to be 3-5 times more expensive than conventional batteries. Toyota's goal is to bring these costs down to parity with traditional batteries by 2030.
